Sermon: Living Toward the Day
Hebrews 10.24-25: We're instructed to encourage one another "all the more as we see the Day approaching." The Day approaching is the culmination of all meaning, where the intrinsic value of God's kingdom replaces the decaying world with its permanence. The wise, who desire to invest their lives with true lasting value with discern this intrinsic value and pursue it. In the church, we do this together, for to do it alone is a very difficult road.

    Sermon: True Confidence
Hebrews 10.19-23: Where does true confidence come from - confidence in the sense of being able to stand tall in the face of opposition, of guilt, and of shame? It doesn't come from ourselves, for in the end our unworthiness will be exposed. It comes from Christ, who gifts us his righteousness and opens up a way for us to access our heavenly Father.

    Sermon: Forgiveness Once for All
Hebrews 9.23-10.18: Our souls long for release from the power of guilt that weighs on our hearts. The old system, the sacrificial one, couldn't do the complete job - for it had to be done again and again. It looked forward to the true good thing that would come and resolve guilt once for all. That is through Jesus, who accomplishes at the cross a once-for-all effect. And in this, those found in him have been given perfection and freedom to live in gratitude to him and his gift.

Sermon: The Power in the Blood
Hebrews 9.15-28: What is significant about the blood of Jesus? Why does the writer of Hebrews focus on it so much? As we are so separated from the ancient mindset, we need to understand what this is all about. What we find is the truth of the overwhelming grace and love of God that makes atonement and opens us up to relationship with God. Praise God!

    Sermon: A Cleansed Conscience
Hebrews 9.1-15: God created us to be close with him, but our sin and guilt keeps us at a distance. On our own, we have no ability to cleanse our consciences. But God, in his great love for us, came close to us through Jesus. Through his shed blood, Jesus makes atonement in the heavenly sanctuary to open the way for us to be close with God. Praise God! Now, if we are in Christ, we live to serve him, in closeness and gratitude.

Sermon: A Light to the Gentiles
Matthew 2.1-12: We desire for light to guide us in the darkness. The magi looked to the heavens and were guided to the Light that had descended from heaven. The light that gave life to every man, even these magi, had come. God will draw all to his Son. All will bow at his feet. As a church, we are to bear the message of the light to the world and be guided ourselves by it in these dark times.

Sermon: The Child That Confronts Us
Luke 2.25-35: In Christ, we are confronted by a child that is the dividing line of history and our lives. He is not an ordinary child, yet comes into the world in ordinary ways. As the one sent from heaven, he is either the rock that brings us to stumble or the firm foundation upon which to build a secure life upon. This is the choice when we are confronted by this newborn child.

Romans 5.1-8: At Christmas, God turns his face toward us in loving attention, compelling us to observe his love and care for us. As we turn our attention to his love, we are transformed by his grace and learn to both love him and our neighbor.
