Sermon: The Word that Overcomes Evil
By: Pastor Ben Hulst
Luke 11.14-28: As we looked at how the Word forms and fills us to new life, the Word also confronts darkness and evil. As God works to foster life, the devil seeks to silence God's word and speak a deceitful one. Jesus, the Word made Flesh, is the stronger man that undoes the strong man Satan. We must continually rely upon him to protect us from the attacks of the devil.

Mar 30, 2025Sermon: The Word that Fills UsBy: Pastor Ben HulstEphesians 4.25-5.20: As last week, we talked about the Word as that which forms us, today we look at the Word as that which fills us to true life. In forming us, God installs the correct software with the purpose of filling us with his life to display to the world.

Mar 23, 2025Sermon: The Word that Forms LifeBy: Pastor Ben HulstEphesians 4.17-5.20: We look at the Word as that which forms us to maturity as children of God. Outside of the true word of Christ, the false word of the world will lead to disintegration of our mind and soul, but in by way of the word of life that God speaks, we are brought to reintegration into the life of God. God speaks into us, "Let there be light" and we brought to new life.

Mar 16, 2025Sermon: Savor the Word Become FleshBy: Pastor Ben HulstJohn 1.1-18: Last week we looked at God calling a famine of the word over Israel because of their apostasy. In Christ coming, he is the answer to that famine that so plagues the human soul. Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. In Christ, he is the Word made flesh, the source of our life and the hope of our hearts. We must continually draw close to him that he might form us and fill us along the designs of God's glory and life.

Mar 9, 2025Sermon: Savor the WordBy: Pastor Ben HulstAmos 8: As we begin Lent, we look to grow in our savoring of the word. In Amos 8, God pronounces not a famine of food, but of the word. This is a most tragic reality where the very life-giving power of God is taken away. It's one thing to deal with a famine of food, but a famine of the word. For we remember, man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.

Mar 2, 2025Sermon: The Prospect of JoyBy: Pastor Ben HulstProverbs 10.27-28: Our life is filled with planting seeds, hoping for a harvest. But in all the uncertainty of life's harvests, how do we daily live with sure anticipation that helps us with anxiety about the future? We turn to the wisdom of Proverbs that draws us to Jesus.

Feb 23, 2025Sermon: Save Me From Lying LipsBy: Pastor Ben HulstPsalm 120: This psalm opens the Psalms of Ascent section as a prayer of preparation for the worshiper as he seeks to center himself on God in pilgrimage. The challenge in getting to the center, where God is and thus peace, is the reality of lies, slander, and destruction all around. To find peace in our center, we must be centered in God through Christ. Then we can be peace in the world around us.

We look at David's prayer anticipating the building of the Temple in I Chronicles 29 to help us see the source of the ending that guides us to put our eyes back to God as we conclude the prayer.

Feb 9, 2025Sermon: Lead Us Not Into TemptationBy: Pastor Ben HulstSeries: This Is How You Should PrayMatthew 4 & 6.13: With this petition, we're drawn into facing the wrestling of the life of the discipleship. After recognizing our grace we've given, now we must traverse the life toward God's glory and face the devil's advances against us. This draws us closer to God as we recognize the challenge we face, but turn to the greater power we have in God.
- Feb 2, 2025Sermon: As We Forgive Our Debtors
Feb 2, 2025Sermon: As We Forgive Our DebtorsBy: Pastor Ben HulstSeries: This Is How You Should PrayMatthew 6.12-15: Today we look at the second part of v. 12 in regards to forgiveness of debts. The forgiveness we receive from God calls also for us to live into our forgiveness of others. Forgiveness rightly understood cannot be understood apart from the cross of Christ and the hope of the coming kingdom. And it is a lifelong process to grow into and that is why Jesus puts it in the prayer, so that we continually come back to the well of grace to strengthen us to forgive others.
