Sermon: What He Offered
Hebrews 8: Are we disturbed enough by our lack of interest in God, relying on the things of this earth to give us peace only he can fulfill? May God disturb us to a holy discontent that draws us to him and his gift of Jesus Christ, our true High Priest. What he offered was his life to save us, that we might not be destroyed by our sin. Praise God!

    Sermon: A New Covenant
Hebrews 7.20-28: Jesus Christ is a priest forever, meaning his sacrifice is a completion of the Jewish daily sacrifices. This truth frames our life, meaning that our daily life is infused with the eternal focus and purpose. With confidence because of Christ's work, we move forward to cleansing, truth, reconciliation, and forgiveness. We walk by faith and not by sight, knowing that Christ is interceding daily on our behalf.

    Sermon: A Forever High Priest
Hebrews 7.1-19: While God gave Israel the priest-led sacrificial system for a purpose, it itself could not fulfill what was completely needed. It was given to establish a pattern that anticipated a coming perfect sacrifice for atonement. This is Christ and it is in him that we now can fully draw near to God, as God has drawn near to us.

Sermon: A King & Priest to Save Us
Hebrews 7.1-10: Our focus is on Jesus' identity as a priestly-king, one who brings external and internal salvation. In him, righteousness and peace are enacted within his kingdom and within our souls. He is the only one who can bring righteousness and peace in this way. He is the only hope for the world.

Sermon: A Mysterious Figure that Illumines
Genesis 14: We introduce ourselves to the mysterious figure of Melchizedek. He plays an illuminating role in Abram's life and is a precursor to Christ. In his mystery, things make greater sense. He is a signal for Christ, the one in whom all mystery is fulfilled and illuminated that we might know life.

Sermon: Seek Peace & Pursue It
Psalm 34: As children of the coming Kingdom, we are called to be people who seek peace and pursue it. As we encounter a world bent on self-destruction, we are called to the priestly task of prayer - calling out for mercy and God's sovereignty to bring peace upon our warring world.

    Sermon: Anchored in the Storm
Hebrews 6.4-20: Though all around challenges present to our faith, we are encouraged to stay strong, to live faithfully, and be fruitful. All this not based on the foundation of our efforts and strength, but upon God's irrefutable promises toward us in Christ. In Christ, we have an anchor keeping us secure, an anchor held firm in the most secure place of all - the inner sanctum of the presence of God.

    Sermon: Heightening Our Diet
Hebrews 5.11-6.3: How is our spiritual diet? Are we still satisfied with "milk" or do we seek greater nourishment to the needs of our soul. This text rebukes us in our lethargy to the things of God. Let us humbly acknowledge our weakness and our spiritual fatigue and seek him. May his Spirit inspire, guide, and awaken us.

    Sermon: The Lowly High Priest
Hebrews 4.14-5.10: We long for a representative to bring our needs to the center of power, justice, and righteousness. Who will speak for us and who will bring back a word of mercy, guidance, and grace? We long for a faithful priest - an intermediary. We must look to Jesus.

Sermon: The Generative & Penetrative Word
Hebrews 4.12-16: If the word is sharper than any double-edged sword, it holds both a threat and hope. If we allow Christ and the Spirit to do their generative work on us, the word is a surgical instrument, opening our souls unhealth to healing, our incompleteness to wholeness. This is an initial threat, but we are called to trust the great surgeon, who alone knows how to heal and operate on the human soul.
