Sermon: “Truth is Stranger than Fiction”
Matthew 27.62-28.15: The resurrection of Jesus is not an earthly imagined reality, but one that must be brought to us from heaven above. But, it also calls for us to believe heaven's witness, that gets passed onto the women, and then the disciples, and then the world. By believing this 'strange' truth, our lives become reoriented around what is real and lasting. In the hardship of this life and its letdowns, the resurrection reorients us around hope, light, and life evermore.

    Sermon: The Trial
Matthew 26.57-27.26: We have a longing for a true Judge deep in our hearts. Feelings of injustice well up within us when we notice something off. But as the true Judge came before us, the collective of humanity tried him unjustly and sentenced him to death. But Jesus accepts the unjust trial in order to establish justice into eternity. And in order to face the last judgment, we can have comfort if we are found in him as those who believe and are covered in his righteousness.

    Sermon: The Garden
Matthew 26.31-46: Jesus enters into the path of isolation as he moves toward the Mt of Olives and the Garden of Gethsemane. Gethsemane means oil press, which speaks to the pressure that Jesus is experiencing as he is overwhelmed to the point of death. Because he has walked this path of isolation to victory, we can have confidence that he is present in all our sufferings, keeping us from being isolated and alone.

    Sermon: Gotta Serve Somebody
Romans 6.15-23: The life of the Christian is marked by being freed from under sin's slavery. But that does not mean that since offense is taken away that we can continue to act in similar ways as before. Redemption leads us to a different place that are managed by different actions - actions that are righteous and filled with life. We are to be slaves of God, for he leads us to eternal life by his path of obedience.

Sermon: Dead to Sin, Alive in Christ
Romans 6.1-14: The Christian life involves the constant remembrance of our state as being in Christ. The opposite is the old reality of being in sin. For Paul, sin in this sense is a brutal slave master who desires to bring harm. He can deceive us though into believing that his way is the best way and Christ's path toward righteousness is undesirable. We must trust the shepherd, who will take us down roads that are hard, but it is for our sanctification and growth. We must not be fooled and move back under the 'sin' master, for he desires to take our joy.

    Sermon: Watchful and Faithful
Luke 12.35-48: Right before this passage, Jesus promises the inheritance of the kingdom to his flock. To be a part of his flock means to be a people of watchfulness and going about the master's business. We are to be watchful of his coming, keeping before us the eternal kingdom and the character of the God who brings it. To be about the master's business is to bear the kingdom in the world - fulfilling our responsibilities to act out of God's character, his generous character of grace and blessings.
