Sermon: The Child That Confronts Us
Luke 2.25-35: In Christ, we are confronted by a child that is the dividing line of history and our lives. He is not an ordinary child, yet comes into the world in ordinary ways. As the one sent from heaven, he is either the rock that brings us to stumble or the firm foundation upon which to build a secure life upon. This is the choice when we are confronted by this newborn child.

Romans 5.1-8: At Christmas, God turns his face toward us in loving attention, compelling us to observe his love and care for us. As we turn our attention to his love, we are transformed by his grace and learn to both love him and our neighbor.

Sermon: The Joy Set Before Us
Hebrews 12.1-3: Christmas is a season of joy - joy anticipated and joy realized. It leads us to consider what it takes to pursue joy. Jesus offers a way through him, who "for the joy set before him, endured the cross and scorned its shame." Shame robs joy now and the prospect of joy for the future. At the cross, Jesus takes our shame and gives us opportunity to be free from its insidious destruction of our soul. He calls us out of the isolation that shame keeps us in to find freedom in him. He opens us up to a greater freedom of the soul that pursues the joy set before us.

    Sermon: What He Offered
Hebrews 8: Are we disturbed enough by our lack of interest in God, relying on the things of this earth to give us peace only he can fulfill? May God disturb us to a holy discontent that draws us to him and his gift of Jesus Christ, our true High Priest. What he offered was his life to save us, that we might not be destroyed by our sin. Praise God!

    Sermon: A New Covenant
Hebrews 7.20-28: Jesus Christ is a priest forever, meaning his sacrifice is a completion of the Jewish daily sacrifices. This truth frames our life, meaning that our daily life is infused with the eternal focus and purpose. With confidence because of Christ's work, we move forward to cleansing, truth, reconciliation, and forgiveness. We walk by faith and not by sight, knowing that Christ is interceding daily on our behalf.

    Sermon: A Forever High Priest
Hebrews 7.1-19: While God gave Israel the priest-led sacrificial system for a purpose, it itself could not fulfill what was completely needed. It was given to establish a pattern that anticipated a coming perfect sacrifice for atonement. This is Christ and it is in him that we now can fully draw near to God, as God has drawn near to us.

Sermon: A King & Priest to Save Us
Hebrews 7.1-10: Our focus is on Jesus' identity as a priestly-king, one who brings external and internal salvation. In him, righteousness and peace are enacted within his kingdom and within our souls. He is the only one who can bring righteousness and peace in this way. He is the only hope for the world.

Sermon: A Mysterious Figure that Illumines
Genesis 14: We introduce ourselves to the mysterious figure of Melchizedek. He plays an illuminating role in Abram's life and is a precursor to Christ. In his mystery, things make greater sense. He is a signal for Christ, the one in whom all mystery is fulfilled and illuminated that we might know life.
