Sermon: True Confidence
By: Pastor Ben Hulst
Series: The Book of Hebrews
Hebrews 10.19-23: Where does true confidence come from - confidence in the sense of being able to stand tall in the face of opposition, of guilt, and of shame? It doesn't come from ourselves, for in the end our unworthiness will be exposed. It comes from Christ, who gifts us his righteousness and opens up a way for us to access our heavenly Father.

Jan 29, 2023Sermon: Forgiveness Once for AllBy: Pastor Ben HulstSeries: The Book of HebrewsHebrews 9.23-10.18: Our souls long for release from the power of guilt that weighs on our hearts. The old system, the sacrificial one, couldn't do the complete job - for it had to be done again and again. It looked forward to the true good thing that would come and resolve guilt once for all. That is through Jesus, who accomplishes at the cross a once-for-all effect. And in this, those found in him have been given perfection and freedom to live in gratitude to him and his gift.

Jan 15, 2023Sermon: The Power in the BloodBy: Pastor Ben HulstSeries: The Book of HebrewsHebrews 9.15-28: What is significant about the blood of Jesus? Why does the writer of Hebrews focus on it so much? As we are so separated from the ancient mindset, we need to understand what this is all about. What we find is the truth of the overwhelming grace and love of God that makes atonement and opens us up to relationship with God. Praise God!

Jan 8, 2023Sermon: A Cleansed ConscienceBy: Pastor Ben HulstSeries: The Book of HebrewsHebrews 9.1-15: God created us to be close with him, but our sin and guilt keeps us at a distance. On our own, we have no ability to cleanse our consciences. But God, in his great love for us, came close to us through Jesus. Through his shed blood, Jesus makes atonement in the heavenly sanctuary to open the way for us to be close with God. Praise God! Now, if we are in Christ, we live to serve him, in closeness and gratitude.

Jan 1, 2023Sermon: A Light to the GentilesBy: Pastor Ben HulstMatthew 2.1-12: We desire for light to guide us in the darkness. The magi looked to the heavens and were guided to the Light that had descended from heaven. The light that gave life to every man, even these magi, had come. God will draw all to his Son. All will bow at his feet. As a church, we are to bear the message of the light to the world and be guided ourselves by it in these dark times.

Dec 25, 2022Sermon: The Child That Confronts UsBy: Pastor Ben HulstSeries: Advent: Walking in Our WaitingLuke 2.25-35: In Christ, we are confronted by a child that is the dividing line of history and our lives. He is not an ordinary child, yet comes into the world in ordinary ways. As the one sent from heaven, he is either the rock that brings us to stumble or the firm foundation upon which to build a secure life upon. This is the choice when we are confronted by this newborn child.

- Nov 27, 2022Sermon: The Joy Set Before Us
Nov 27, 2022Sermon: The Joy Set Before UsBy: Pastor Ben HulstSeries: Advent: Walking in Our WaitingHebrews 12.1-3: Christmas is a season of joy - joy anticipated and joy realized. It leads us to consider what it takes to pursue joy. Jesus offers a way through him, who "for the joy set before him, endured the cross and scorned its shame." Shame robs joy now and the prospect of joy for the future. At the cross, Jesus takes our shame and gives us opportunity to be free from its insidious destruction of our soul. He calls us out of the isolation that shame keeps us in to find freedom in him. He opens us up to a greater freedom of the soul that pursues the joy set before us.
