Sermon: By Faith – Abraham the Alien
Hebrews 11.8-16: Abraham is one of the key figures in the Old Testament and his life offers a framework for the life of faith. It begins with trusting God's direction, even though the full map isn't in front of us. It involves engaging his patterns, not the world's. And it involves being part of the church's growing family as God brings to life people who were once dead. To live by faith is to look forward to that which is built by God, not man.

    Sermon: Not Shrinking Back
Hebrews 10.26-39: The challenge of being faithful to Christ contains threats within and without. The world can have a strong pull, with its threats and its desires that tempt. So we need to value correctly what we have - a treasure that is valued higher than any other and which lasts. If we calculate wrongly the value of the gospel we might throw it away. The writer urges us, "Do not shrink back." "Persevere, for Christ is coming soon."

    Sermon: True Confidence
Hebrews 10.19-23: Where does true confidence come from - confidence in the sense of being able to stand tall in the face of opposition, of guilt, and of shame? It doesn't come from ourselves, for in the end our unworthiness will be exposed. It comes from Christ, who gifts us his righteousness and opens up a way for us to access our heavenly Father.

    Sermon: Forgiveness Once for All
Hebrews 9.23-10.18: Our souls long for release from the power of guilt that weighs on our hearts. The old system, the sacrificial one, couldn't do the complete job - for it had to be done again and again. It looked forward to the true good thing that would come and resolve guilt once for all. That is through Jesus, who accomplishes at the cross a once-for-all effect. And in this, those found in him have been given perfection and freedom to live in gratitude to him and his gift.

Hebrews 9.15-28: What is significant about the blood of Jesus? Why does the writer of Hebrews focus on it so much? As we are so separated from the ancient mindset, we need to understand what this is all about. What we find is the truth of the overwhelming grace and love of God that makes atonement and opens us up to relationship with God. Praise God!

Now, if we are in Christ, we live to serve him, in closeness and gratitude.

Sermon: A Light to the Gentiles
Matthew 2.1-12: We desire for light to guide us in the darkness. The magi looked to the heavens and were guided to the Light that had descended from heaven. The light that gave life to every man, even these magi, had come. God will draw all to his Son. All will bow at his feet. As a church, we are to bear the message of the light to the world and be guided ourselves by it in these dark times.
