The world can have a strong pull, with its threats and its desires that tempt. So we need to value correctly what we have - a treasure that is valued higher than any other and which lasts. If we calculate wrongly the value of the gospel we might throw it away. The writer urges us, "Do not shrink back." "Persevere, for Christ is coming soon."

Through his shed blood, Jesus makes atonement in the heavenly sanctuary to open the way for us to be close with God. Praise God! Now, if we are in Christ, we live to serve him, in closeness and gratitude.

This is the choice when we are confronted by this newborn child.
